NYC is home to a very robust ramen scene. Ramen enthusiasts in NYC all have their opinion of what the best ramen in NYC is. Just like pizza or steakhouses, if you ask 20 people what the best ramen in New York City is, you might get 20 different answers! NYC is home to not only many locally opened ramen shops, but it is home too to acclaimed chains from Japan! My favorite ramen shop though is a local spot. And it's not Ivan Ramen, Ippudo NY, Totto Ramen, Momofuku Noodle Bar, or even a Japanese chain like Ichiran's NYC locations. My favorite ramen spot is a spot in West Harlem called ROKC. ROKC, standing for Ramen Oysters Kitchen Cocktails, opened its doors in 2016. It was opened by veterans of Angel's Share, Maison Premiere, Totto Ramen, and Hide-chan Ramen. The restaurant has a really cool vibe, feeling like a trendy cocktail bar, but also serving incredible ramen! And it also feels like a hole in the wall ramen shop vibe, as it's located in a basement and you can easily walk past it when strolling through Harlem! It's a bit far from the center of Manhattan and a bit of a trek, but if you want a really delicious and unique ramen, their specialty is their fish and chicken broth Kyoto ramen.
