Blocking people

When I decided that I was done with an interpersonal dynamic or evaluated that it was harmful, I used to block people. I used to laugh and say “my blocking finger is always ready” 😂👆🏾. Because people attempted to cross boundaries, blocking seemed to be the best choice. But in my growth and healing (after conversations with my therapist as well), I have learned that this is an extreme form of avoidance. It is much easier on my nervous system to stand on self control and who I am. Stand on my boundaries. Hence, I unblocked all the people from my social medias, phone, email, cashapp and even LinkedIn 😂 (it was a long list 😂). My preference now is to change my number, move or remove myself however I am led to do so. I have learned that while I have taught people how to treat me (good and bad), people in multiple interpersonal dynamics have also taught me how I should navigate them. Unfortunately, so many people have taught me that I have to be firm, unyielding not tralalaling like I would normally prefer to be. I am reminded of an excerpt from my favorite scripture; “For he will hide me in his shelter, in the day of trouble he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock.” (Psalm 27:5 NRSVUE). To anyone that sees this, I am curious. Do you block people? If so, do you feel and think that it helps you stand on your boundaries more or less? It has been far easier to not block people and to just ignore calls or texts that I do not want to answer. But this is because I am no longer shrinking, hiding or molding myself to ease others.
