Laser Treatment for Anal Fistula: Understand about the Anal Fistula laser treatment procedure along with its comparison from conventional surgery and recovery time. In this video, Dr. Paritosh Gupta, Senior Consultant, Head of Department, General and Minimal access surgery, Artemis Hospital, explains in detail about anal fistula. He says it is a common problem, but people shy away from discussing it because of social inhibition. An anal fistula is an infected tunnel between the skin and the anus, the muscular opening at the end of the digestive tract. Most anal fistulas result from an infection in an anal gland that spreads to the skin. The Symptoms include pain, swelling, and discharge of blood or pus from the anus. Fistulas can cause a lot of discomfort and, if left untreated, may cause serious complications. Moreover, fistulas in the perianal region usually require surgery as they rarely heal if left untreated. Some fistulas can cause a bacteria infection, resulting in sepsis, a dangerous condition that can lead to low blood pressure, organ damage, or even death. To confirm if you have this condition, meet your doctor, and getting an MRI done will also let you know where the issue is coming from and how deep it is going. He also talks about the treatment options for fistula, including laser surgery and conventional surgery. He talks about how laser surgery is minimally invasive and time-saving, and you get home the same day. However, recovery varies from person to person; a mild one takes a week, whereas a deep or complex fistula takes around 2 to 4 weeks to heal. Your doctor can usually diagnose an anal fistula by examining the area around the anus. They will look for an opening (the fistula tract) on the skin. The doctor will then determine how deep the tract is and where it is going. In many cases, there will be drainage from the external opening. Some fistulas may not be visible on the skin's surface. In this case, your physician may need to perform additional tests Key Moments: 🔹What is Anal Fistula? 0:16 🔹How to Diagnose Anal Fistula? 0:43 🔹Can Medicines Treat Fistula Completely? 1:09 🔹What are the Treatment Options for Fistula? 1:50 🔹Anal Fistula Laser Surgery vs Conventional Surgery - Which is Better? 2:32 🔹What is the Recovery Time after Laser Fistula Surgery? 3:18 Disclaimer: It is important to note that treatment time, recovery time, and results are influenced by the severity and pre-existing conditions of the patient.
