Dr. Marx: Ankle fractures come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes there are these little avulsion fractures where the ligaments just pull off a little bit of a bone and those ones we can treat pretty aggressively getting into therapy, getting your motion strength back without too much downtime. Kind of the next level up from there, or what we would consider more stable injuries, where one of the bones is broken, but it's lined up pretty well. And in fact, the remainder of the ligaments and bones around the ankle are holding it steady. Those ones we go a little bit slower with with a boot or a cast for a short period of time before letting you get back to what you want to do.
