Focussing on rural and remote contexts, Rachel Marks (SPARC) and Claire Senko (Waterford Old Town Hall) explore how slow touring can thrive beyond urban centres. Panelists discuss logistics, partnerships, and community connection, reframing rural touring as an opportunity for deeper engagement and sustainable touring models. Panelists: Rachel Marks (SPARC) Rachel Marks is the Executive Director of Réseau SPARC Network (Supporting Performing Arts in Rural and Remote Communities) and a Relaxed Performance & Accessibility Consultant, working with companies like the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, The National Ballet of Canada, Stratford Festival, and others to welcome Deaf & Disabled audiences and artists to their work. Rachel believes strongly in everyone having access to the arts, and in a vibrant and strong rural arts community. Claire Senko (Waterford Old Town Hall) Claire Senko is the Artistic Producer and Program Director of the Waterford Old Town Hall, a multidisciplinary arts centre in rural Norfolk County. The Hall has become known for bold, unexpected programming, mentorship across generations, and amplifying marginalized and underrepresented voices. Claire co-founded Town Hall Kids Theatre Co., now in its 20th year, and produces the Concerts in the Vineyard series at Burning Kiln Winery. She believes joyful, welcoming cultural spaces should exist everywhere — and that rural stages can be places of both excellence and belonging. This virtual workshop was presented by Ontario Presents on February 23, 2026 as part of the Slow Touring Project. It was made possible thanks to support from the Canada Council for the Arts.
