This episode features Tapeley Park, the Queen Anne home of 53-year-old Hector and his bull terrier, Wayne. Originally destined to inherit the world famous opera house, Glydnebourne, in Sussex, Hector passed up that responsibility, opting instead to take on the family’s rural retreat in North Devon. Taking over the family estate at just 23, Hector turned it into a commune, moving in friends and even strangers as partying took priority over conserving the family’s rich history. Now, 30 years later, Hector has moved the partygoers out and devotes his life to running a self-sufficient community. But with his focus on working the land, the house, now buried under three decades of clutter and grime, is shut off from the outside world, a shadow of its former glorious self.
