When we decided to play this song with my band, I started searching for tips from talk bass and different sources, most of the posts from Tool fans and great players where very helpful, the challenge was to make it sound with my equipment.... We all know that JC has 2 amps, so it´s very important to try to separate the clean and dirty channels as you listen to the song, my approach is to make that mix with effected and direct levels, so I started with the clean bass eq. The harmonic booster is a great pedal to achieve a clear and mid range sound. When adding the gt1b distort and effects, the levels are going to be relatively low, so I suggest to pay attention to your clean sound or "channel" first before adding effects. Once the main distort was done, working on the flanger wave or the delay time, feedback and level was relatively easy. During the gtr solo, I knew that he was turning on and off his autowah, so I took advantage of the momentary switch option and it sounds and plays awesome! Just be careful where and how you hit the strings, probably you will need to adjust the SENS of the TWAH to your playing... Anyway, I hope that this is helpful and so far, the gt1b its great and yes, you can do a lot of Tool songs!! BTW I suggest to disable the looper if you don´t use it, I accidentally activated it during a soundcheck and it messed up the whole song!!
