Various of rally STORYLINE: About 50-thousand Palestinians on Saturday staged one of the strongest shows of force since the re-igniting of the violence in Israel and the Palestinian territories. The rally, held in a football stadium in Nablus, was organised jointly by Hamas and Fatah, once bitter rivals. Cooperation between Fatah and Hamas has grown steadily closer during the uprising and the ideological differences have narrowed. Hamas remains firm in its opposition to peace talks with Israel, while Fatah, a former supporter of reconciliation, has been adopting an increasingly militant line, and few in the group still speak of resuming negotiations. Some differences remain, though. Hamas has carried out a series of suicide bombings in Israel, while Fatah gunmen have mainly targeted Israelis in the West Bank and Gaza, not the Jewish state itself.
