The fourth level of Prayer is called the Prayer of Simplicity because it is a quiet, simple form of prayer, yet difficult for many to achieve well. It is the last of the four levels of ascetical prayer, meaning it is the last that we, of our own effort can achieve without heavenly intervention and yet it has some parts of Mystical Prayer or heavenly intervention associated with it. It can only be achieved if we truly love God and desire to be in His Presence. So, we need to grow in love with God by knowing Him, loving Him, and serving Him in our lives. Only then can we achieve this fourth level. This is simply the prayer of acquired recollection. It may be a simple gaze or love on some divine object, which could be God Himself, His nature, the Holy Eucharist, or some Christian truth or mystery. Indeed every soul needs this simple holy quietude regularly in order to get sufficient nourishment, recollection, concentration and true rest in the Lord . Without this, the soul would increasingly or slowly lose its center of gravity and begin to suffer untold damages in the midst of endless commitments, noise, distractions, disturbances, losing its health and sanity, and become incapable of making simple discernments and right judgments. The devil, the public and even modern life including electronics with its vain movies and immoral music, as well as much talking or endless worldly discussions can all combine to disturb and deteriorate a soul of God who by nature needs such daily prayer of simplicity. So, we must find time daily, to "withdraw from the crowd" as Jesus did, in order to be alone with God. It is not the petition phase of prayer. Nothing is said, yet He requires our active (not passive) attention and concentration during this period. Details? https://www.amazon.com/Levels-Prayer-...
