Peshdary also funded Maguire’s trip to Syria, according to a report by CBC News. Maguire flew to Syria in December 2012. He was reportedly killed while fighting in Kobani, Syria last month, but Canadian authorities said his death was not confirmed. The Ottawa native appeared in an ISIS propaganda video published last year, praising two terror attacks in Montreal and Ottawa.Police believe Peshdary also recruited Khadar Khalib, a 23-year-old friend of Maguire's who flew to Syria through Toronto's Pearson International Airport on March 29, 2014.Because of passport issues, Peshdary stayed in Ottawa and continued his effort to recruit more homegrown jihadists. He gave a speech at a college last year and continued to post propaganda materials on social media. The “spin-off” of the investigation also led to the arrest of three other men allegedly involved in terrorism activities in January. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Media Animation’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D animated news graphics that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health.
