In March 2025, BLA militants hijacked a train with over 400 hostages, demanding the release of Baloch political prisoners. The Pakistani government responded with force, ending the siege but at the cost of 27 civilian lives. This attack underscores the enduring and growing challenge posed by the Balochistan insurgency, which has persisted despite decades of military crackdowns. Rooted in deep-seated economic, political, and social grievances, the BLA has proven remarkably resilient, using guerrilla warfare and leveraging Balochistan’s rugged terrain to its advantage.
