GPD WIN Gaming Performance - Part 1

THE IDEA: Ten games played on the GPD WIN (A handheld Windows 10 PC with a 5.5-inch screen and a built in gamepad for PC gaming on the go). This is the first video of a series. Each video will present ten games running on the GPD WIN with the framerate displayed in the top left of the screen. Each game is running at the lowest acceptable in-game settings unless it performs well at higher settings. The only thing I may consider "unacceptable" is a resolution below 640x400. When you get to the 400x300 range or so, thats just too low for most games. I also have not edited any configuration files or used any external methods of improving performance. I'm only using what the game provides. The only exception is that I have added a custom resolution of 955x544. Some games recognize it and offer it as an option, some do not. I am deliberately chosing footage that shows the lower framerates in an effort to give viewers a realistic idea of what to expect "out of the box." This is not a video to "show off" the performance of the device. It's not perfect, but since there really isn't anything else quite like it available at the time of making this video, it's hard to complain much. I LOVE the idea of this device. It's basically along the lines of my dream gadget. I hope that we see more devices along these lines start to come out over the next few years. That being said, here are some of my pros and cons. PROS: • Solid build quality and attention to detail • Games run better than I expected • Small screen allows for games to look good at low resolutions, which helps with performance. CONS • Not crazy about the trigger buttons. They are not comfortable to use very often. I would avoid playing many games that rely heavily on the triggers. Occasional use is fine. Then again, I wasn't expecting it to feel as nice as an X-Box controller.
