Painful penetration is a deeply personal and often misunderstood experience – and it's far more common than most people realize. If you're struggling with discomfort during intimacy, you're not alone. This kind of pain can be caused by a number of factors, including tight pelvic floor muscles, hormonal changes, vaginal dryness, and vaginal atrophy. For many, transitions like perimenopause and menopause bring a natural decline in estrogen, which can thin the vaginal tissues, reduce lubrication, and create a sense of tension or friction that wasn’t there before.
