It is scored for a SATB choir and organ. Stainer intended that piece would be within the scope of most parish church choirs by including five hymns for congregational participation. The oratorio was first performed on February 24, 1887, the day after Ash Wednesday of the same year. This song is the 5th movement from the oratorio Crucifixion, entitled “The Mystery of Divine Humiliation”.
