Learn how to dial back the power in your driver swing just enough for your drives to find more fairways. In this video we review how to hit your drives when you need to use your driver (for distance) and for the ball to find the fairway (for accuracy). When you play golf you may encounter holes that feature a tighter fairway or other features that make hitting the fairway crucial. In some cases, you can get away with hitting a fairway wood or a hybrid from the teeing ground but what if you also need the distance that only your driver provides, such as a long par-4, or a hole with a long carry? Learn how to dial back a little bit of power in your drives in order to gain more accuracy. Next time you are at the driving range, stack two piles of 10 golf balls and grab your driver. For the first pile of 10 balls, hit your driver as fast as you normally can in order to send the ball as far as you can. This would constitute your 100% swing. Now, count how many of those drives would have fallen into the fairway if you were playing on a hole you know. Now hit the next pile of 10 balls but dial back your power in your swing. In order to do that, you may consider gripping the club down a little in order to shorten the club. You can also take greater care in centering your bodyweight at address and throughout your swing and follow through, never allowing your body to fall out of balance. Finally, during your backswing try not to reach your full top of the swing position but stop three quarters of the way there instead. After hitting those 10 dialed-back drives, count how many stayed inside the fairway. Most golfers will find that the dialed down drives are more accurate than their full 100% swings while not losing a ton of distance in the balance. Next time you are faced with a situation where you absolutely must hit the fairway but also must hit the driver, think about dialing the power back a little. Your second shot will thank you! #golf #golftips
