El Paraje y Reserva Natural Punta Entinas-Sabinar alberga uno de los sistemas dunares mejor conservado de la Península, además de ofrecer kilómetros de fina arena en su bella playa virgen. La vegetación existente se ha adaptado a las especiales condiciones de este medio: suelos arenosos, altas temperaturas, escasez de agua y elevadas concentraciones salinas; como por ejemplo la azucena marina, que destaca por sus flores blancas recubiertas de pelillos para reflejar los rayos solares, evitando con ello la pérdida de agua. En las dunas cercanas a la costa predomina el barrón. Esta especie coloniza las arenas y con sus raíces las asienta evitando su movimiento, permitiendo que especies como la sabina negra, el lentisco y otros arbustos fijen definitivamente el sustrato. Al apreciar esta sucesión, se comprende el proceso de formación de un ecosistema de dunas fósiles como el de Punta Entinas-Sabinar, donde abundan los reptiles como la culebra bastarda y la de herradura o el lagarto ocelado. Ya en la playa el visitante puede identificar interesantes especies como la Gaviota de Audouin, cuyas escasas colonias se encuentran en lugares apartados de la presión antrópica . Realizando el sendero de las Salinas de Cerrillo, se aprecian áreas inundables, en forma de pequeñas charcas, marismas y salinas, donde se puede contemplar la abundante avifauna presente en estos parajes, como la elegante garza real, que permanece inmóvil a la espera de que algún pez pase cerca para arponearlo con su largo pico, o el pato cuchara, que debe su nombre a la forma de su enorme pico. Ya en el Charcón del Flamenco, entre eneas y carrizos, construyen estas peculiares aves sus nidos de barro, cuya puesta consta de un sólo huevo.
