New road fit for a king. opens at the new town of Nansledan, Cornwall, UK In conjunction with Cornwall Council and Network Rail, the Duchy of Cornwall opened a new route, part and parcel of the King's new town, 15 years of planning and construction in. The new strategic road, costing well in excess of £20 million, is now open, forming an epic route on the outskirts of Newquay, combining two new bridges faced in local granite and flanked by wildflower meadows and wetlands. The route enables traffic to bypass holiday bottlenecks at Trencreek and Quinterel Downs. Descending from the highest point in the district, the road cuts through fields and over the new, and still under construction, £60 million metro link, railway to Falmouth. The road route offers panoramic views over the town and the Nansledan valley. The local authority said the new road, through the Duchy's Nansledan will act as major bypass for Quintrell Downs and will help to reduce traffic in residential areas including Trencreek, while also supporting the local economy, improve residents' lives and new transport links in the area as well as enabling the construction of new homes a new supermarket and a new Household Waste and Recycling Centre opposite Hendra holiday park.. A spokesman says, "The whole area will have great connectivity via footpaths and cycle ways, which will ultimately allow pedestrian access from Chester Road to Quintrell Downs without a walk down a main road. "We were also shown the start of Market Street, which will feature a Market Hall, a supermarket, shops bars and restaurants. It is not just the road; it is everything else it has brought with it. "There’s going to be wildlife ponds, streams, rivers, the wildlife habitat that will all come with it. It is going to be absolutely fantastic." This major bypass for Quintrell Downs will help reduce traffic in residential areas, including Trencreek, while supporting the local economy, improving residents' lives, and providing new transport links in the area also enabling the construction of 3,000 more new homes on the site.
