Marl, die Stadt des Grimme-Preises. Aber das war´s auch schon mit dem Glammer. Marl ist eine Industrie- und Arbeiterwohnstadt. Die Stadt ist für mich der Inbegriff gescheiterten Städtebaus. Dabei entstanden Stadtviertel wie Hamm, die gar nicht mal so unansehnlich sind. Was die Stadtoberen allerdings in den 60er/70er Jahren des vergangenen Jahrhunderts als Zentrum bauten, verschlägt einem die Sprache. Die zum Teil unansehnlichen Plattenbauten am Marler Stern erinnerten mich an dunkelste DDR-Plattenbausiedlungen. Der Marler Stern selbst zeigt die Trostlosigkeit dieser Stadt: Die Geschäfte schließen 19 Uhr. Wer nach Arbeit shoppen möchte, fährt besser gleich ins wenige Kilometer entfernte Recklinghausen.
