Chinoiserie shows the time integrated within an imaginary landscape. The minutes pass through the eddies of a bubbling river and the hours are shown on a cliff above the water. This extraordinary watch was designed for us by Marion Labbez. Marion hand crafted each watch herself - she printed the components and gilded the glass with Italian and French 22 carat gold leaf to stunning effect, “I don’t think glass gilding has ever been used before to ornate a watch. This collaboration was a chance to create a completely unique piece. It was also an exciting challenge to work on such a different scale to my normal practice. Through a combination of traditional gilding and precise printing, I was able to realise this fanciful vision of an exotic dream-like landscape, which contrasts with the technical rigidity of measured time. The gilding process means that each watch has a slightly different pattern which gives every one it’s own individual personality.” Chinoiserie is produced in a numbered edition of 100 pieces, each watch numbered on the back of the case.
