Repaired XT550

This XT550 was in a poor condition when I bought it. The engine would sound like a bag of nails crashing and banging. I rode it less than 100 miles before the engine seized. The engine required a complete top end rebuild which included, a re-bore to accommodate a new oversized piston and rings, valves refurbished, replacement head, new camshaft, new timing chain and new oil pump. The bike was still suffering from low oil pressure which caused the initial seizure. The engine oil is contained and supplied via the bikes frame!! The bikes frame has a fine metal gauze which acts as an additional filter. It transpires that this gauze had never been serviced/cleaned in nearly forty years and was completely covered in old oil and debris! Once cleaned good oil pressure acquired. The engine runs smoothly and a lot more refined/quiet. Next task was to replace the shoddy paint scheme by the previous owner to a crisp yellow with 1982 decals. After a lot of hassle to locate parts and much money spent this XT550 is back on the road again. (best viewed in HD)
