One of a kind, the monumental complex of the former Benedictine monastery of San Giorgio Maggiore is a place of great architectural and artistic prestige. It has been the headquarters of the Giorgio Cini Foundation since 1951, by the will of Vittorio Cini. The Count Cini, a cultured entrepreneur from Ferrara, decided to rejuvenate the island, from the degradation caused by military occupation since Napoleon. In addition, Vittorio Cini promoted significant restoration projects and created a place for the cultural and social development of the community. The Fondazione Giorgio Cini is even today a trove of invaluable treasures, a meeting point for cultures and ideas, an elected place for research and the dissemination of knowledge.
