This short documentary explores the reality of street entrepreneurship in Mumbai through the story of a local street vendor managing a small-scale daily income business. Street vendors form a crucial part of India’s informal economy. With nearly 1 crore vendors generating approximately ₹8,000 crore in daily trade, street entrepreneurship plays a significant role in urban employment and sustains millions of households across the country. However, despite being an essential part of the urban economic ecosystem, street entrepreneurs often operate under conditions of financial uncertainty, lack of institutional support, and income instability. Through this documentary, we take a closer look at the entrepreneurial journey of a street vendor by understanding their daily routine and working hours, along with the income, initial investment, and operational expenses involved in running a small-scale street business. It further explores the marketing strategies adopted at the street level, the competition within the local market, and the various business risks and survival challenges that such entrepreneurs face on a regular basis. The film also sheds light on the lack of fixed income and financial security, limited access to formal credit and insurance facilities, legal uncertainties and regulatory challenges, as well as the dependence on weather conditions and customer footfall. In addition, it examines customer behaviour, the impact of location on business performance, and the financial dependence of families on such micro-enterprises for their livelihood. This film highlights how even the smallest street stalls function as independent business units while simultaneously facing multiple socio-economic limitations such as irregular earnings, absence of social security, and vulnerability to external disruptions. As a management student pursuing an MBA in FinTech and actively learning about real-world business models, this project helped me understand entrepreneurship beyond startups — where survival, consistency, and adaptability are key to sustaining a business despite structural and financial shortcomings. Entrepreneurship is not always about corporate offices and funding rounds — sometimes, it is about building stability through daily effort on the streets while navigating uncertainty and risk. #StreetEntrepreneurship #informaleconomy #smallbusinessindia #mumbai #microbusiness #selfemployment #entrepreneur #indianeconomy
