Management of Hip Dysplasia by Dr Ajay Malviya, FRCS Orth

Mr Malviya joined Northumbria Healthcare as a Consultant in 2011 after completing his orthopaedic training in the North East. His area of specialty is in the treatment of disorders of the young adult hip and has helped Northumbria become the tertiary referral centre for young patients with hip disorders attracting referrals from all over the country. He has expertise in hip preserving surgeries like hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement and other disorders around the hip and periacetabular osteotomy for hip dysplasia (corrective surgery for shallow socket) using a minimally invasive approach (small incision). Mr Malviya is heavily involved in training future orthopaedic consultants. He is the lead of the UK and Ireland orthopaedic in training examination, and is an examiner for FRCS T&O. In addition he regularly teaches in national and international hip preservation courses and mentors consultants on how to set up a similar service in their own trust. He has an active interest in research, being an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Regenerative Medicine in Newcastle University, with many publications to his name, and lectures nationally and internationally. He has also won several national and international awards in his area of specialty.
