The music starts with a stark descending jagged solo piano melody that gives way to a fierce eruption by the trio, which quickly reveals that, while remaining under the Latin Jazz umbrella, this project is far from the lush Brazilian-infused odes that characterize Finbury's previous releases. The lyrics bring images of dahlias evaporating in the sea, beginning a continuous metamorphosis, reminiscent of the artworks of M.C. Escher. Eagles spiral down towards an altar; seeds rain atop an insensitive heart, which explodes upon the growth of "the tree of the sad night”; all references to Mexican iconography and/or National symbols. And there’s a reference to someone, but not by name, of whom there will soon be nothing left. Though written and recorded a year before the world was stunned by a pandemic that has most of us worried about our future, this anthem of freedom, of hope being born from under the boot of tyranny, seems to have taken on an added meaning (even as its original meaning rings truer than ever) in that, even in our darkest hour, we are capable of enabling a brighter reality for times to come. And we can start today. --------------------------------------- “Llegará El Día” es el primer sencillo del nuevo álbum de música del compositor doblemente nominado al Grammy® John Finbury, interpretada por Magos Herrera, Chano Domínguez, John Patitucci y Antonio Sánchez. La música comienza con una pícara, casi infantil melodía de piano solo, que lleva a una feroz erupción del trio, lo que revela rápidamente que este trabajo, aunque encuadra bajo la más amplia descripción de Latin Jazz, está lejos de las suntuosas canciones de inspiración brasileña que caracterizaron los trabajos anteriores del compositor. La letra presenta imágenes de dalias evaporándose en el mar, iniciando una serie de transformaciones, reminiscentes de las obras de M.C. Escher. Águilas que vuelan en espiral hacia un altar, semillas que llueven sobre un corazón insensible, que estalla al germinar “el árbol de la noche triste”; todas son referencias a la iconografía y/o símbolos nacionales Mexicanos. Y también hay una persona, a quien no se nombra, de quien pronto no quedará nada. Si bien la canción fue escrita y grabada un año antes de que el mundo quedara inmovilizado ante una pandemia que tiene a la mayoría preocupada por nuestro futuro, este himno de libertad, de la esperanza que nace incluso bajo la bota de la tiranía, parece haber adquirido un significado adicional (si bien su inspiración original sigue más vigente que nunca) que es, que incluso en nuestra hora más oscura, tenemos la capacidad de proyectar una realidad más brillante para los tiempos que vendrán.
