We will also cover Kharaj Riyaz in the upcoming lesson. First of all we should try to sit straight. If possible, spread a mat on the floor and sit cross-legged. Do not sit too tight or loose, sit comfortably. Take a deep breath in and sing while exhaling slowly. While inhaling, the stomach will expand and while exhaling, the stomach will return to its normal position. Start the tanpura at pitch C. You can also play C in harmonium instead. Breathe in and sing while breathing out. Sing as long as you can. Then start with the Aa sound (Aaara) and sing in different voices. The mouth opening should be egg shaped. Our mouth should be open in such a way that if we insert a finger between the jaws, it can easily come inside. Also, 3 or 4 fingers can easily go inside the mouth. Watch video for demonstration. Make sure to take a break of a few seconds (5-10 seconds or more) after each bit. So that you can sing afresh with new energy every time. You can see this as similar to filling a large container with water. Every breath you take is like filling a bucket and then you are emptying it into the container. That's why great Pandits/Ustads call it the Riyaaz of 'Sur Bharne'. This riyaaz will bring stability to your voice and will correct instability or vibration of the voice. This will also improve the quality of your notes. Your breathing capacity will improve. You will become more aware of your breathing and your voice. However, it will take consistent practice over time to see these improvements. The next note that we can sing is the E sound (Eekar). Then the oo sound (Ukar), in this the mouth opening will be smaller in size. Then Ai sound (Aikaar). Then sing the O sound (Okar). Then sing like humming (hmm sound). Among all these different ways of doing Sa Riyaaz, Akar Riyaaz is the most important and should be done for the longest time from the others. Start your riyaaz this way, and you will definitely see good results with time. 0:00 Introduction 1:14 Riyaz #riyazdaily #indianclassicalmusic #riyazforever
