Filipino tennis star Alex Eala acknowledged that she could not "find my groove" in a quick loss to Linda Nosková of the Czech Republic in the fourth round at Indian Wells. Eala had entered with momentum but she was outplayed by Nosková, 6-2, 6-0, on Wednesday (Manila time). READ: Alex Eala bows out of Indian Wells with loss to Linda Nosková "Tough match," Eala said afterward. "I think she played super well. I don't think I was able to find my groove and nothing clicked for me in today's match." Eala and Nosková had played against each other as juniors in 2018, with the Filipina emerging triumphant then. However, Eala stressed that plenty has changed since then. "I'd be a fool to base my information (from) playing her at 13, when she was 13," she said. "The preparation was similar to my other matches. It's similar to if I've never played her before, and I haven't in the professional circuit." Eala would not deny that the result was "a tough pill to swallow," but rather than dwell on the negativity she sought to learn from the experience -- and take pride in having reached the fourth round in her maiden campaign in the BNP Paribas Open. "I'm in the fourth round of Indian Wells," she said. "I'm really happy about that. It's still something I'm really proud of. I wish it could end on different circumstances, but it is what it is, and, and there will be a next time for sure." "I think my experiences here and my matches here have really meant a lot for me," she also said. "It's a learning experience for me… I wouldn't consider today's match a positive experience for me, but down the line, I believe it will have a positive impact on my progression as a player." Up next for Eala is a return to Miami, where her meteoric rise on the global stage began last year.
