Pete Kuykendall (January 15, 1938 – August 24, 2017) was and will always be a highly respected man in the world of bluegrass music. Google his name to learn more. This is a live recording of the Country Boys (later aka. the Kentucky Colonels) performing live at their, ''home arena'', the legendary Ash Grove located at 8162 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles in April of 1962. Besides the live show content, there are some clips that sound like they were recorded on a home reel to reel tape recorder. These feature two guitars, CW’s lead guitar and a rhythm player who could be Roger Bush or Leroy McNees. These numbers include Black Mt Rag, Footprints in the Snow and Way Down Town. During this time, band leader, Roland White is in the US Army Medical Corps in Germany for a couple of years – actually 17 months - and various mandolin players would fill in for the leader of the band. The folk music icon, Mike Seeger and Nor Cal multi-instrumentalists Scott Hambly are two of gentlemen who subbed for RW. With no regular mandolin player, Clarence, RW's younger brother, started developing his own leads to add to the band's sound. Within a couple of years CW would be the star soloist of the band that came to be known as the Kentucky Colonels. O1. Black Mountain Rag * 02. Cripple Creek 03. Little Georgia Rose 04.
