Exploring Sheffield: Canals, City Streets & Hidden Corners

In this video, I spend a full day exploring Sheffield, one of the most character-filled cities in the north of England. From the peaceful Sheffield Canal Basin—where the city’s industrial heritage meets calm waters—to the busy town centre full of energy and creativity, this place has so much to offer. Along the way, I stumble across some more unusual and eye-opening areas where homeless communities seem to gather, giving a real sense of the city’s contrasts and challenges. Despite that, Sheffield has a warmth and resilience that truly stands out, and I found myself loving every minute of it. The journey ends at the beautiful Sheffield Cathedral, one of the city’s oldest buildings, which sits just a short walk from the canal system. The cathedral’s mix of medieval and modern architecture provides the perfect place to pause, reflect, and wrap up my visit. Sheffield really surprised me—it’s a city with heart, history, and so much to explore. I’ll definitely be back.
