“Privatized gains and socialized losses” Economist Sakib Sherani takes a deep dive into the numbers to get the real facts behind Pakistan’s biggest privatization deal in almost 2 decades - the sale of the national carrier Pakistan International Airlines. Sherani says the figure being quoted by the government are not correct as these include future investment commitments by the conglomerate, led by Arif Habib group that successfully bid on the loss-making airline. Sherani says the buyers will now get a company with positive equity, four million passengers in annual traffic, and global landing rights. It’s a win-win for the bidders - from the get go says Sherani, with a bid of Rs135bn - which includes the Rs10bn actual sale price, plus the Rs125bn commitment of capital investment in the airline’s operations and fleet over five years — for 75pc of the current government holding in PIAC - the winners also have the option to buy the remaining 25% - which Sherani says he expects to happen fairly soon. #pakistan #alimustafavlog #letalishowyou #privatization #selling #subsidy #airlines #airline #emirates #staralliance #corruption #firesale #business #finance #flying
