Rows of tables prepared for iftar STORYLINE: Migrants and foreign workers in the Libyan city of Misrata come together in a communal setting to talk and laugh as they eat free iftar meals during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. The initiative is supported by cash donations from locals and by homemade food provided by Libyan women in the city. In the hours before people can break their fast, young people in Misrata work together to set rows of tables and prepare them for the diners. They lay out water, juice and dates first, before bringing out warm food when it is time for people to break their fast at sunset. Mohamed Jat, a migrant worker from Pakistan, has been eating at this iftar gathering for the past five years. "Libyan people are very good. My friends from Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Niger and many people here, we feel good," he says. Ahmed al-Gaidi, an organizer, says this gathering has been set up during Ramadan every year since 2008. He says the goal is to provide meals to those who cannot afford to buy food, foreigners and anyone who will not make it home in time for iftar. Yahya Abdullahi, a migrant worker from Nigeria, has also been coming to this gathering for years to break his fast with coworkers from Niger, Chad, Egypt and Sudan. =========================================================== Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: / ap_archive Facebook: / aparchives Instagram: / apnews You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
