Midges are the most widespread trout stream insect of all. Therefore having effective fly patterns is important. This fly imitates the common black midge pupa and is productive both during hatches and when prospect fishing. Try it as a point fly on rivers where trout are rising and fish it right in front of them 1"-5" underwater. The shuck imitates the emerging adult and is a trigger for fish that this fly can't escape quickly. They will key in on this feature. The bead head keeps the fly drifting at the right depth. The wire adds a little more weight as well as segmentation and contrast to the body. The starling hackle collar is very soft and will flutter in the current. Give this one a try.
