SEARCH FOR MISSING JET SKIER TURNS TO HEROIC RESCUE BY THE USCG AND MARTIN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

A Lake Placid man is celebrating his incredible rescue after falling off a jet ski in rough waters near the St. Lucie Inlet this afternoon. 53-year old Joseph Baricklow of Lake Placid was thrown off his jet ski and reported missing when witnesses found only the abandoned jet ski in the water. MCSO deputies working the 100-Shift, along with our Aviation Unit, Community Policing Unit, and Marine Units, all deployed resources to search for any signs of the missing jet skier. Fortunately, MCSO located him clinging to the rocks off the north jetty of the St. Lucie Inlet. Due to the rough waters, United States Coast Guard Aviation Survival Technicians (AST) flew in and maneuvered over the rocks to perform an incredible rescue of Baricklow. He was safely hoisted into the Coast Guard chopper, brought to shore and transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
