Sky News host Andrew Bolt has defended Australian couple Frank Strazdins and Di Thorley after police refuted the pair’s claims that they were placed under arrest for inciting a riot near an "Invasion Day" protest. In an interview which aired last week, Mr Strazdins revealed he and his partner were placed under arrest while wearing a pair of Australian flags atop their heads on January 26 as they walked the streets of Melbourne. “Within two minutes, a police officer approached me and said you are under arrest for inciting a riot,” Mr Strazdins said during the interview. “I said ‘What, how?!’ He said, ‘Well the flags on your head’. I said, ‘Well today is Australia Day’… and he started to walk me off the middle of the road.” The police have since denied they arrested or threatened to arrest Mr Strazdins. “Instead, they say Frank was asked to move for his safety from the middle of tram tracks in the direct route of the protest and the officer just followed Frank into the shop, told him he had the power to move him on,” Mr Bolt said. The Sky News host called for the police to release any bodycam footage available or the CCTV footage from the incident. “Until they do, I think I know who I'll believe here and of course who had the most reason to put a gloss on what really happened.”
