Ten of St. Lucia's best calypsonians battle for supremacy in the 2023 monarch competition. CARIBBEAN INSIGHT TV's mission is provide innovative, practical and top quality programs that will serve as a conscious raising vehicle and a cultutal organizing tool, identifying the social values and attitudes which equates to West Indian people. Our first responsibility is to the viewers watching our programs and the business who used our services to reach theIr target audience. in 1947 when a small group of people dressed in ragged clothes began to beat out rhythms on bottles and pieces of steel as they paraded through Castries. People soon joined in the impromptu parade which ended at the home of Derek and Roddy Walcott on Chaussee Road. Calypso competitions have been held in St Lucia every year since 1957 except for 1964 and 1965 and 1996. Local calypsonians were plying their trade since the Forties with the first calypsonians of note to include Lord Scrubb, Battle Axe, Ezekiel, Piti Quart, Mighty Session and Mighty Bonnet. Initially these singers would sing on the streets. Later in the Fifties, concert and club appearances and annual competitions sprang up.
