Today in the House of Commons, I raised serious concerns about the failed electric school bus experiment in Quebec and the enormous costs that Canadians are being forced to absorb as a result. In 2025, the Quebec government ordered 1,200 “zero‑emission” school buses from Lion Electric—vehicles that ended up catching fire, costing triple the insurance of diesel buses, and requiring far more maintenance. After multiple fires and skyrocketing expenses, Quebec cancelled the program and reversed its electric‑only requirement. But this wasn’t just a failed policy experiment. It became a textbook pump‑and‑dump scheme that left investors devastated while insiders walked away with millions. Lion Electric burned through more than half a billion dollars in investor money before entering creditor protection, and its president cashed out $33 million before the collapse. What’s worse is that the Government of Canada was directly involved, contributing: $50 million from the Strategic Innovation Fund $480 million through the Canada Infrastructure Bank An unwritten and unquantified loan guarantee through Export Development Canada Canadians deserve to know how much public money was lost and who benefitted from this failed green‑tech experiment. I will keep pressing the government to provide transparency and accountability. If you support greater oversight of taxpayer dollars and a responsible approach to innovation, please like and subscribe.
