Here’s my interpretation of Born in Space by Owane! By far my favourite track off their latest album, and a very fun song to play! The Holdsworth-esque syncopation throughout the song was a challenge to learn, but I managed to get it sorted out in a day or two and got this take on the second attempt. Listen with headphones if you have them! Enjoy! Some fun things to note: 0:00 – I need to invest in a camera that can focus and expose an image properly. 0:10 – The opening tom hits are compressed and EQ’d floor toms from EZDrummer2 as the samples had a larger amount of sustain for the start of the song. 0:30 – The sound effect that occurs in conjunction with the splash hit at this point is not in the drumless track. I crossfaded this section from the CD version of the song to keep it in the video. 1:50 - I had to sight read this passage due to my eagerness to get the song recorded. So eager, in fact, I didn’t take the time to commit this section to memory! 3:30 – Considered putting something fun in here to watch but the flu has made me lazy, so you get to watch me awkwardly wait for the next drum section to start! 4:00 – This point onward has to be one of the most enjoyable passages of music I’ve ever played! I can’t get enough of those syncopated accents!
