ORGAN HUNTING in the Netherlands Postlude Sietze de Vries & Sander Booij improvise variations on "Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten" at three different organs in the home of Sietze and Sonja de Vries, Groningen. The organ on the far right is the newest addition to the collection and Sander, who is an organ builder and voicer, has been voicing it in the recent weeks. It is a rather special instrument, built by aeroplane engineer Johan Timmerman, who used many unconventional parts for the organ, such as parachute cloth instead of goat skin for the bellows and kerosene gauging rods for mechanical purposes. The pipes are also fairly diverse. Johan Timmerman himself had already succeeded in turning it into something quite decent before Sander started to voice it. The mean tone temperament was applied to the organ just before the inauguration, which took place February 15, 2020. It cost £225. Miss Hope's father was Thomas Arthur Hope a prominent Liverpool banker. Their London home was at 2 Great Cumberland Place, Kensington After the organ was relocated in a small church at the beginning of the 20th century, it was sold to Feenstra Orgelrestauratie, NL in 2001. 2011: Relocation to Niezijl by Feenstra and some volunteers. The badly damaged façade pipes were repainted by Luit Vasse (Zuidhorn) 2013: The Oboe 8’ replaces the Wald flute 4’ in the Swell (from stock Feenstra).
