Nashville property taxes have gone up 60 percent over the last five years. Next door, Mt. Juliet's more than doubled. A bill making its way through the Tennessee legislature wouldn't let those numbers get that high that fast. State Rep. Jason Zachary (R - Knox County) filed HB 1873. He says that would cap local governments property taxes at 2% per year over 3 years or 6% aggregate over 3 years. Rep. Zachary cited a Beacon Center poll saying 90% of Tennesseans support a cap. Homeowners are taking a hit and small business owners tell FOX 17 News they are being punished with these high property taxes and trying to stay positive amid "exhausting" challenges.
