In this video I explore the abandoned steel factory and the abandoned blast furnace of Cockerill-Sambre for the second time. HFB, meaning Hauts-Fourneaux B or Blast Furnace B, was a former steel mill owned by Cockerill-Sambre and later bought by ArcelorMittal. Located alongside the Meuse (Maes) river in Seraing's small village of Ourgée and right next to the City of Liège, The factory was shut down in 2009 due to the economic crisis and completely abandoned in 2011. An estimated 600 - 2000 people worked in this factory and over 40 000 people worked for the company. After many years of talks, demolition finally started in October 2022, just 10 months before the making of this video. The furnace itself, which stands at 60 meters (197 feet) tall and was used to smelt iron ore in order to produce pig iron, will most likely be the only remaining structure of the former factory as a symbol of the 200-year industrial history in the region.
