What is Dexter Even About? ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ My Twitter~ / tylearn_ ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ After watching 8 seasons of Dexter and half of new blood, I’ve decided I cannot wait any longer and tonight’s the night I talk about one of my new favorite shows, Dexter. This show got a random spring in popularity and the memes are priceless, so today I’ll be overviewing some of the first couple seasons, along with elaborating here and there on why this show is so great. I’m gonna try to give a good synopsis for you guys before we talk about specifics. Dexter is about a guy named well… Dexter who’s a blood analyst working for Miami metro. Although he appears to be normal, he’s actually a serial killer who goes around killing criminals who “fit his code” . The code is something his father created for Dexter since at a young age, Dexter suffered a traumatic experience with his mom and a dude with a chainsaw, man. Anyway this traumatic event effectively changed Dexter for the worse and we’d see him have urges of wanting to kill stuff. His dad, in order to suppress these urges, decided to give him a code so he can control himself while living a normal life. In season 1 we see the main core characters being Dexter, his sister Deb who’s trying to prove herself as a cop, Masuka the pervert character, Angel who’s kinda hiding that he’s going thru a midlife crisis but is trying to hold it together, Maria who’s a bitch, and Doakes who’s the only guy who gets the creeps from Dexter. I won’t really mention too much about any of them aside from Dexter Doakes and Deb , but the others will be mentioned along with other characters later on in the video. Now the show hooks you from the beginning by showing Dexter having experience in what he does, along with him now going after a killer who doesn’t like to leave blood, which we know Dexter has a thing for. And so from episode 1 they kinda hook you with Can Dexter take out this serial killer who seems to be one step ahead of Dexter? It’s very simple but it keeps things simple to understand and allows you to really just analyze how Dexter interacts with the real world while having to deal with this. He has a wife who has kids that he’s currently trying to work through a relationship with along with having a sister who’s really the only family he has left. Well, that’s until we find out who the ice truck killer is. Brian Moser or the ice truck killer would be revealed to be Dexter's biological brother, meaning he was there when his mother died as well. Both of them would be born in blood and he’d be the only other person so far to understand Dexter, as they’ve gone through the same traumatic event. We also see him being able to hide the fact very well like Dexter and he only managed to get caught because Angel got lucky. This leads into Season 2 where Dexter begins to get a little rusty with killing, leading into his tracks being uncovered for Sergeant Doakes to follow. In season 1 we saw Doakes gradually pressing Dexter more and more, but season 2 allows him to fill the villain position in full, and it makes this season even better than the last. Doakes and Dexter's dynamic along with dialogue exchange makes up for some of the most entertaining stuff in the show and I'm NOT just saying that because Doakes is my favorite character. Anywho, Dexter would earn a rep as the Bay Harbor Butcher and with Doakes on him constantly, he needs a better excuse and this leads into him going to rehab where he meets UGH Lila. She’s just a can of bad problems that Dexter opens fully, which leads into Rita finding out he cheated and she’d be the one to get Doakes killed. And when Lila kills him, we see Dexter get upset from this and get his get back soon after. After the first 2 seasons, a lot of people believe the show gets a little stale but I believe season 3 to be the most underrated season of Dexter. The addition of Miguel gives us a new side of Dexter, where he’s the one now getting deceived and is in a domain position as his old friend from the last season. This season just feels forgettable as the only thing that is kept throughout the season here is Quinn and the buildup of Rita and Dexter's relationship. Miguel feels more so like an afterthought in the grand scheme of things which makes me kinda sad as he definitely gave us the funniest scene in Dexter. Rita is someone I haven't really spoken too much on but now that we’re approaching season 4 territory we can talk about her more. Trinity, who ultimately is the one who murders Rita, is supposed to represent what Dexter COULD become if he keeps going down the way he is, and we see him in this season especially, starting to not follow the code. Not only does this delay him from killing Trinity, but ultimately it's his own decisions that allowed him to kill Rita just in time, before his fate was ultimately set. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #dexter #netflix #show
