Tropical Disturbances in the Atlantic and beyond - August 26, 2022 TWB

The tropics are expected to ramp up towards their seasonal peak soon, and yet no storms are currently active apart from the ailing remnants of Tropical Storm Ma-on, and the extratropical extension of Typhoon Tokage. However, several areas of interest in the Atlantic and Pacific could be on the road to development this weekend. In the Atlantic, areas of interest have been marked for possible development next week in the main development region and into the eastern Atlantic, with long range models suggesting a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. In the Eastern Pacific, only long range models are suggesting activity, and nothing is expected in the short term. In the Western Pacific, two areas of interest have been marked - one likely to follow the track of Tokage fairly closely, and the other possibly forming near Okinawa and heading in the direction of Taiwan next week. At this point in the season, strong storms are possible from almost any innocuous area of interest, but trends so far suggest that they will be few and far between in the next couple of weeks.
