Well, here's a classic Piano song: Benny and the Jets by Elton John! This tune, off the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album is such a fine piece of Pop music, and an incredible mix. It has a great feel, and is so ON the beat. It's one of my fave songs from this band, ever. But, there's no Guitar audible on the track, so what would Davey Johnstone have played live? I think something like this... These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes if there is more than one guitar part, then trying to find the single good path through the tune. I complete one pass, demonstrating different Rhythm parts, styles, and techniques. There is no talking. No discussion. No note-for-note explanations. As such, for clarity, my guitar is supposed to be louder in the mix than it would ever be in a live setting. But, if you really want to hear what I hear, do what I do and put on a good pair headphones with great bass response! It's worth it. Why this is important to Rhythm Guitar: It's not. Except for your meter. You have to play this slow, right on the money or it'll sound like crap. Still, there is no real Electric Guitar on this song at all. Plus, I placed a Quater Note Delay with ONE repeat to play the other chord in each bar. Dunno. It sounds cool to me. There is virtually no audible Guitar on this track either, save a couple of Acoustic strums. That's it. So, why make this video? Well, if you were going to play this song live, then what would you play? I guess that's the lesson. I think doubling the Bass in some parts and doubling the Piano in others is the answer. Otherwise, get off stage and go get a drink. #echohead #rhythmguitar #powerpop #bennieandthejetsguitar
