Photographing majestic mountain scenes and exotic locations is cool and all, but you know what's really cool? Strip malls. Strip malls in Fullerton. Oh, and donut shops. Yeah, that's way cooler. And that's why for this "Photography On Location" video I ventured out into my proverbial "own backyard" to capture some lovely old buildings and snapshots of daily life in Fullerton, California. You may see a junky donut shop or a janky thrift store, but I see potential, baby. Potential for some killer photos on 4x5 large format and 6x17 panoramic Kodak Portra 160 film. This stuff is kind of like "architectural street photography". It's your classic tripod-mounted architectural photography with lens rises and film standard shifts but with a dash of the decisive moment. That makes it both fun and frustrating. On this outing I put my Shen Hao HZX 45-IIa 4x5 view camera to work as well as my Shen Hao TFC 617-A. The images contained herein were made with my Nikkor 210mm f/5.6 and Rodenstock 115mm f/6.8 lenses. This equipment offered the aspect ratios and lens/film movements that I needed to bring these images to life. Then it only took 2 early mornings and 2 middays (with very specific weather conditions) to complete the package. Thanks for watching!
