ATCO Pipelines engages in a number of construction projects annually in urban centres. To minimize impact on neighbouring communities, we use a method called lateral or horizontal directional drilling whenever practical. This allows us to place brand new pipelines underneath roadways or environmentally sensitive regions without disturbing the area directly above the pipe. In early 2014, ATCO Pipelines executed our longest horizontal drill to-date. This 1.7 kilometre drill underneath the 16 Avenue and Stoney Trail intersection was not only a record for ATCO Pipelines, but also for the City of Calgary.
