Toby's Little Jingle - a Granny Marsha bedtime story 🌛 ---------- Toby is a little fox cub with soft red-orange fur and bright curious eyes. He wears a tiny bell on a blue ribbon that goes jingle when he moves. In the sunset the bell gives the woods a gentle song. One evening the sky turns pink and sleepy. The trees sigh and crickets hum a slow tune. Toby walks with soft steps, the bell jingling like a small silver bird. But when Toby stops, the bell is gone from his ribbon. He feels worried because the bell helps him sing a bedtime tune to his friends. Now the meadow is quiet and Toby does not know how to bring the lullaby. He looks under leaves and behind mushrooms, his paws rustling dry grass. He listens closely for any tiny jingle sound in the hush. A little breeze brushes his ear like a whisper. Toby asks Owl, who hoots soft and blinks, and Owl points with a slow wing. He hears Frog croak near the pond and Rabbit rustle through the ferns. Each sound helps him follow the path with gentle footsteps. Sometimes Toby feels small and almost wants to sit down. He breathes in the warm air, watching fireflies blink like tiny lamps. He remembers that the bell's song is like a little courage inside him. At last Toby finds the bell tucked under a dandelion puff, glinting in the moonlight. He ties it back on his ribbon and it rings a soft jingle that makes the leaves sway. He hums a tiny lullaby and the sound floats over the meadow, soft and warm. All his friends yawn and curl up, listening to the gentle tune. Toby feels happy and his heart is full of sleepy calm. He snuggles into his bed of moss, smiles, and says, "good night".
