Soccer Mommy: Vans Sidestripe Sessions | VANS

This week's session features music by Nashville native, Soccer Mommy. Soccer Mommy performed two songs, "Circle The Drain" and "Lucy" accompanied by art created by Jordan Moss. Soccer Mommy, aka Sophia Allison, launched her musical journey at a young age. That early spark led her to later attend the specialty school, Nashville School of the Arts, honing her guitar and songwriting skills. In 2015 she began to upload home studio recordings to Bandcamp and soon signed to Fat Possum. Allison’s indie rock sound, emotionally candid lyrics, and "sad-girl" persona resonated with fans. Clean, Allison’s 2018 debut studio album, made critics and fans swoon. The album made numerous end of year lists with The New York Times pop critics' citing it on their best-albums lists in 2018. Earlier this year, Allison released her follow-up sophomore album, Color Theory. This latest effort allowed her to evolve her songwriting approach and process. Leading up to the album release, she told The New York Times, "On the last record, I didn't have any experience in a studio, so I didn't know how to bring in any ideas. This time, I had basically learned how it works. I had so many thoughts on how to make my vision of the song itself match the recording."
