Many Analysis results are calculated from dependent result values or unreported parameters like weights and factors These can all be configured in Bika by lab manager users Also see the manual page https://www.bikalims.org/manual/7-cal... In this video we do maths calculations first and then return to illustrate each of the more advanced features, using simple examples Total Hardness = Calcium Hardness + Magnesium Hardness Using Interim fields Dilution = Reading * Factor Applying a Factor to all results on a Worksheet Using Interim field text Options Empty Interim Fields Report Interim Fields To create a Calculation, navigate to them in the LIMS Setup.Click [Add], Capture a name and Description In the video an example previously created, Total Hardness = Magnesium Hardness + Calcium Hardness, is used This Calculation won’t be using any temporary fields and its Formula can be captured straight away The formula represent the right hand side of mathematical equations, in this case Magnesium Hardness + Calcium Hardness For the formula to work, the depend Analyses are looked up by their Keywords, NB not Title, and they are put between square brackets to identify them as variable [Magnesium] + [Calcium] Test the Calculation by capturing test values for the dependents and save To use the Calculation it can be assigned directly to an Analysis Service. Best practise is to assign it to the Method used by the Analysis Service The video uses a Method we configured earlier, and its selected Calculation On the Analysis Service, Select the Method and Calculation, Save When the user creates a Sample and Analysis using the Analysis Service, the results will be calculated when the dependents' results are saved The calculated result is greyed out. Its results cannot be captured in the UI but depends on the two others When the dependent results are saved, the Calculation completes Using Interim Fields is not much different, let’s look at Dilution = Reading * Factor where a result is calculated from say an Instrument reading or Titration to which a dilution factor has to be applied In this example we also assume the same dilution factor applies to a series of results done in the same analysis run, grouped on a Worksheet Temporary parameters are configured as ‘Interim Fields’ with their own keywords Their Titles are used to tag fields and columns where the results have to be captured Not to wreck forms and views, it is important that as many columns possible have the same title and obviously the same keyword cannot allowed with a different Title in different Calculations - the system will not save such interims and show a warning In this example there is a Reading in mL, with default of 0, and Factor with no unit, default 1. Factor can be applied ‘Worksheet wide’. The Formula is Reading * Factor The video shows an example on a Sample On Worksheets the Factor can be applied to all values. Capture it once and press apply Just like for standard Analysis results preconfigured texts can be captured as Interim field results options Configure the options as text:value|text:value|text:value|, e.g. 0:Opaque|1:Red|2:Green|3:Blue to capture a specific colour, and to assign numeric values to them Select how the options must be presented, e.g. Selection list The numerical value of the option can then be used in a formula or captured without affecting the result These options are the presented as field result options on Sample and Worksheet views Other possibilities in Calculation configurations are The option to allow for empty Interim values where that is in some instances necessary The option to include interim fields in COA Templates Hide Interim fields from Clients on Sample views Follow the Bika Open Source LIMS project at https://www.bikalims.org/
