Marshall 1959 Super Lead Pedal | In-depth Review & Demo + All the tones with six different guitars!

This is the Marshall 1959 Super Lead Overdrive/Distortion Pedal: a brand new Marshall In A Box (MIAB) style stompbox voiced after the original Plexi amp by the inventors themselves! ----- Get the Marshall 1959 Pedal at Thomann (EU): https://thmn.to/thoprod/606573?offid=... At Sweetwater (USA): https://sweetwater.sjv.io/ra2mN3 ----- At NAMM 2025, Marshall surprised the guitar world with the release of a bunch of new, premium priced modded tube amps. They also released a quintet of “amp in a box” FX pedals for guitarists working on a slightly lower budget. These pedals are all based on iconic Marshall amp designs: you have this 1959 Super Lead, and there’s also a JCM800, a JCM900, a JVM and a DSL. They all cost (at time of launch) $149/€139, and they all have that distinctive Marshall look, which is a nice touch and certainly feeds on my own brand nostalgia. Each pedal has four controls, although what they do differs between the various models. On the 1959 Super Lead, you get a High Treble and a Normal – which correspond to the original amp’s two channels – and a Tone and Volume. The original amp had no Master Volume, so what you would do is either use one of the channels, or, more commonly, use a jumper cable to blend both together, and crank it to reveal those legendary Marshall crunch tones. Happily, this pedal lets you use the two channels independently or together, but we also have that master Volume knob to control the levels. The beauty is in really coaxing a range of overdrive tones out of the pedal by blending the two channels. I’d seen a few other demos of this pedal before I bought mine, and what I really wanted to show in this video is the extent of 1959 Super Lead’s versatility. So, here I put it through its paces with six of my guitars to really show the variety of the tones you can achieve. This goes from bluesey pushed cleans to light overdrive sounds for indie and alternative rock, some thick crunch tones for classic rock, heavier rock sounds for hard rock and punk, and even some classic heavy metal and sludgy chugging tones! The six guitars I’m using today are my Epiphone Les Paul, my Fender Telecaster, my Ibanez Iceman, my Fender Stratocaster, my G&L Doheny Tribute, and my Ibanez AS73FM (which is a Gibson 335-type). Between these six guitars, you get numerous different pickup types and a true smorgasbord of Marshall crunch tones. The amp went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it.
