Arab Street, Kampong Glam. Singapore Walking Tour in Full HD. Video Taken: June 15, 2023 Arab Street - Is part of the culturally rich Kampong Glam heritage trail. Rather than just one road, Arab Street actually refers to the area including Bussorah Street, Haji and Bali Lanes and Muscat Street. Surrounded by brightly colored fabrics and textiles, hand knotted Persian rugs and aromatic Arab teas. Its heart is the Masjid Sultan Mosque, with a history that reaches back 200 years. This is also an area of indie boutiques, restored shop houses and street arts, that attract anyone from buskers to tourists to families. Haji Lane is a very narrow street which is nestled in a corner of Arab street and is a hidden gem. The location is such that you can easily miss entering this cool place. A colorful street which is lined on both sides by boutiques, cafes, bars, and eateries. The best part is that all of them are decorated with painted murals in various hues. You will find the best restaurants offering some local and innovative delectables. This place will just fill your heart with delight with its cool and hip ambience. A walk down Haji Lane is a must on your trip to Arab street in Singapore. Arab Street lies between Victoria Street and Beach Road in the Kampong Glam Area, and was part of the Rochor Planning Area of Singapore's Central Region. Sir Stamford Raffles formed a Town Committee in 1822 and mapped out areas designated for individual communities to live in. Had designated the Kampong Glam area as the most appropriate area for Arabs to live in. Other streets nearby are also named after Arabian Cities. These include Bussorah Street, Muscat Street and Baghdad Street. Arab Street today is still a key Muslim centre in Singapore, and is famed for its specialty shops, Muslim restaurants and more. Bussorah Street - Originally called "Sultan Road" and it's one of the most famous streets in Sultan Gate, drawing many tourists who flock to see the noteworthy Sultan Mosque. In the past, Bussorah Street was known as Kampong Kaji (Pilgrim Village). Today, Bussorah Street is lined with Middle Eastern restaurants, tourist shops, and other interesting shops. The pedestrianised street is framed by palm trees and is a favourite spot for Instagrammers everywhere. Masjid Sultan Mosque It is a special place for not only the Muslim community, but also for Singapore itself. It began life in the 1800's, when Sultan Hussain Shah, Ruler of Temasek (former name of Singapore) proposed to build a Mosque. These days it's considered the "National Mosque" of Singapore. The original Masjid Sultan Mosque was demolished after about a century to make way for the current building, which was completed in 1932. Each dome base is decorated with glass bottle ends, donated by lower income Muslims during its construction so that all Muslims, not just rich, could contribute. North Bridge Road was actually forced to bend around the Mosque as it was extended beyond Arab Street. With its Golden Dome a majestic icon of the Area, this place of worship is definitely worth a visit, no matter what one's religious beliefs. Please Like Share and Subscribe for More Videos.
