AORUS RTX 3080 GAMING BOX.replacing the thermal interface. hello. I am not a specialized specialist in the maintenance and repair of video cards. I made this video for my own pleasure. maybe this video will help someone. you have to be aware of all the consequences. I do not recommend you to do the same thing that I did in the video, it is not advisable. after replacing the thermal interface, the temperature of the video card dropped slightly by about 5 °. I removed the video card from the computer. I tried to put marks on the screws that hold the copper cooling plate. then I unscrewed these screws, there are eight of them in total. the copper plate was removed with difficulty, it held very well on the thermal interface. after a little effort, the plate was dismantled. the thermal interface was damaged, it did not preserve its integrity. it was removed mechanically with small pieces of rags and washed off with alcohol and a toothbrush. the new thermal interface I used from lairt is quite easy to work with. I squeezed out small portions of the material from the tube and rolled them into small balls in other places, I immediately squeezed out the elements of the video card from the tube. after applying the thermal interface, I attached and screwed the cooling plate in order to make sure that all the elements would be in contact with the cooling plate. after that, I dismantled the cooling plate again and made small adjustments to the placement of the thermal interface. after that, I screwed the plate with screws according to the marks left earlier. I installed the video card in the computer, turned it on and checked its operation. I noticed a slight bend in the mounting points of the cooling plate, that is, the textolite of the video card itself was slightly curved. I took the video card out of the computer again and unscrewed the screws a little until the textolite of the video card was aligned. I didn't notice any strong changes after these procedures, of course the temperature dropped, I don't think it was advisable to disassemble the video card and install a new thermal interface. when I cleaned the video card from the old thermal interface, I was well convinced that my video card was really clean. I wanted to be sure that there was no garbage left on the video card. I was very upset by the fact that I noticed a slight curvature of the textolite on the video card , I regret that I did not take a photo before that , as it was before all these procedures . perhaps the video card was like that, but I'm not sure and I hope that in the current state the video card will work for a long time. the next step that I want to do is to move the cooling radiator to the point of the system unit for this it will be necessary to use other coolant tubes and build up the cable that powers the fans on the radiator. to understand what temperatures should be on the graphics card, I used the asus create program, it shows the temperature of the graphics card, the memory of the motherboard, as well as the CPU. I was running the game red dead redemption 2 and turned on the graphics testing mode, I really got a slight decrease in temperature. I also used similar programs to monitor temperatures in them, I got similar results similar to the game. it was a small experience that I would not like to repeat there is no point in it. the thermal interface that stood earlier was quite suitable and it was working. perhaps on other video cards, the interface changes its properties for the worse within one and a half to two years of operation. in this case, the computer was used exclusively for household purposes for text editing games. if you have a similar video card that was removed from the box and installed into the computer as it is, then I do not recommend you to do what you saw in this video.as I said earlier, I am not a specialized specialist. it took me 5 hours of working time. I have prepared the table and tools beforehand. I used tweezers, a dental umbrella. stationery knife, toothbrush, industrial alcohol. cotton swabs.toothpicks. small pieces of cotton cloth. this job was scrupulous enough for me, I was in no hurry. the new interface I used is called laird. in consistency, it somewhat resembles children's plasticine, only more liquid. previously , I tried to work with him to understand what kind of material it is and how to deal with it . you can take small portions of the material and roll them into small balls in the palm of your hand, then use a toothpick to place them on the elements of the video card. you can also try to squeeze out of the tube, but it does not always work well. I wanted to achieve the correct distribution of the thermal interface so that it was not too much, just as much as needed. a small tube weighing about 25 grams was purchased .as a result, I have about 5 grams left. for the graphics card processor, I used arctic mx4 thermal paste and applied it in a thin layer. that seems to be all I wanted to tell.
